Griffin Newspaper Redesign

Sticky

Over the summer of 2012, I redesigned the student newspaper of Canisius College, The Griffin along with my friend and Editor-in-Chief, Nick. We studied newspapers from the U.S. and around the globe to see what elements we would like to use in the new design. After many long hours of tweaking and bouncing ideas off each other we came up with the layout you see in this post. I also integrated the new masthead design in both the Facebook page and Twitter page for the paper.

Edward Austin Kent

Sticky

Edward Austin Kent was an architect who lived in Buffalo, N.Y. at the turn of the 20th century. He built many residences and public projects throughout the city.

My interest in the Titanic disaster made me curious about whether there were any Buffalo connections to the tragedy and I was led to the story of Kent. Starting in Fall of 2010, I researched Kent’s story and wrote a short film based on the historical material I uncovered.

Local Western New York actors brought the story to life and it premiered at the Buffalo & Erie County Historical Society on April 15, 2012 – 100 years after Kent’s heroic death.

Here are FSIs I did for a mock CLIF Bar Ad Campaign. Working with a partner who did the copy for the ads, I designed the FSIs in Photoshop.
